Corvette Captain, commander of the Gunboat "Tiger", took the German Minister Resident and Consul General in Seoul, Conrad von Saldern, on 19th December 1905 in Chemulpo on board and brought him to Shanghai.


Adalbert Ferdinand Berenger Viktor, Prinz von Preußen
Third son of Kaiser Wilhelm II. and officer of the German Navy, sailed on board HMS "Hertha" to Chemulpo and together with other officers of the corvette visited the Korean capital from 5th to 6th May 1904.


Alvensleben, Otto Udo Constantin Karl Werner von
Lieutenant on HM Gunboat "Jaguar", harboured on 15th December 1902 for a few hours in the port of Chemulpo.


Aschenborn, Heinrich Anton Louis Carl Richard
Corvette Captain and commander of HM Cruiser "Nautilus", made several reconnaissance trips on the south coast of Korea presumably in 1885 in the company of a Korean pilot and interpreter.


Bassenge
Dr. med., Senior Physician, member of the German East Asian Contingent in Tsingtao, 1902 for a few weeks on vacation in Korea and Japan.


Baudissin, Friedrich Hugo Clothar Aimé Graf von
Corvette Captain and commander of HMS "Iltis", at the end of July 1894 in Chemulpo. After the sinking of the "Kowshing" on 25th July, he brought Constantin von Hanneken back to China. The second time he entered Korea as admiral and commander of the Cruiser "Hansa" on 22nd July 1903.


Bauer, Heinrich
Corvette Captain and commander of HM Light Cruiser "Geier", sailed to Pusan on 27th August 1901 and stayed there for several days.


Becker, Gottlieb
Captain and commander of HM Cruiser "Arcona". In the wake of the German cruiser squadron, Becker visited Korea from 11th until 23rd July 1897.


Bendemann, Felix Eduard Robert Emil von
Vice Admiral and chief of the German Cruiser Squadron, commander of the Cruiser "Fürst Bismarck", visited Korea from 21st to 26th September 1901.


Blanc, Louis Karl Emil von
Commodore and first chief of the German East Asian cruiser squadron as well as Captain and commander of HMS "Stosch", took Max von Brandt on board his ship to Korea for the negotiations of the first German-Korean treaty in June 1882.

Sublieutenant on HM Light Cruiser "Geier", in April 1904 in Chemulpo.


Bois, Georg du
Captain and commander of HM Cruiser "Irene", during the visit of the German cruiser squadron from 16th until 23rd July 1897 in Korea.


Breusing, Friedrich Wilhelm Alfred
Rear Admiral, head of the German cruiser squadron in Tsingtau, arrived in Chemulpo on 3rd November 1906 on board his flagship "Fürst Bismarck". After an audience with Emporer Gojong in Seoul, he steamed back to Tsingtao on 5th November.


Brussatis, Reinhold
Corvette Captain and commander of HM Cruiser "Cormoran", during a visit of the German cruiser squadron from 11th until 23rd July 1897 in Korea.


Büchsel, Ernst
Lieutenant on HM Gunboat "Jaguar", which called the port of Chemulpo on 15th December 1902, but after a few hours he continued his journey to Shanghai.


Diederichs, Ernst Otto von
Vice Admiral, head of the German Cruiser Squadron of the East Asian station, payed a visit to Korea with his squadron from 16th until 23rd July 1897.


Fielitz, Otto Wilhelm Henry
Flag Lieutenant on board the Torpedo Boat "S 91", from 21st until 26th September 1901 with Vice Admiral Bendemann in Chemulpo and Seoul.


Fluder
Lance Corporal on HMS "Leipzig", which brought Consul General Eduard Zappe from Japan to Korea for negotiations on the German-Korean treaty. On 27th October 1883, the ship reached Chemulpo and Fluder accompanied Zappe as an orderly to Seoul.


Frantzius, Ernst von
Captain and commander of HM Corvette "Alexandrine", entered the port of Chemulpo on 2nd October 1892. Frantzius visited Seoul, where he was received by King Gojong in audience on 8th October. On 11th October the "Alexandrine" set sail again towards Chefoo.


Geißler, Richard
Vice Admiral, head of the East Asian cruiser squadron in Tsingtao, sailed on his flagship "Fürst Bismarck" several times to Korea in the years 1902 and 1903.


Gemsky
Sublieutenant, paymaster on HM Corvette "Alexandrine", visited Korea from 2nd to 11th October 1892.


Georg Franz Joseph Luitpold Maria, Prinz von Bayern
Came to Chemulpo on board HM Gunboat "Iltis" on 15th April 1903 and traveled incognito to Seoul under the name 'Graf von Wartenberg', where he and his travel companion Prof. Dr. Heinrich Mayr attended the German school and the Korean music school. On 20th April, he continued his journey to Japan.


Halm
Lieutenant, a member of the 1st East Asian Occupation Brigade in Tsingtau, visited Seoul in May 1904.


Hanneken, Constantin Alexander Stephan von
Adjutant and military advisor with general rank of Governor General and Viceroy Li Hung-chang, traveled to Korea shortly before the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war as a passenger on board the "Kowshing", an English steamer chartered by China for the transport of troops, to inspect the fortifications there. Shortly before its destination, the "Kowshing" was sunk by a Japanese warship on 25th July 1894. Of 1,300 men, Hanneken and a further 200 sailors could save themselves onto a small island. After Hanneken's arrival in Chemulpo, the commander of HM Gunboat "Iltis", Corvette Captain Baudissin, took him on board and brought him back to China a few days later.


Hassenpflug, Ludwig Werner, genannt "Luis"
Sublieutenant, officer on board HM Frigate "Hertha", accompanied the English gunboat "Ringdove" to Korea in June 1871 to free two British and the German Brinckmann from alleged captivity by the Koreans. However, it turned out that Brinckmann was not caught, but was murdered by Chinese sailors on their way back to China.


Heinrich Albert Wilhelm, Prinz von Preußen
Brother of Kaiser Wilhelm II., Rear Admiral and chief of the 2nd division of the German East Asian cruiser squadron, visited Pusan with his flagship "Deutschland" from 28th July until 6th August 1898. The second time he entered Korean soil in Chemulpo on 8th June 1899. Accompanied by 9 officers, 25 marines and the ships band, he went to Seoul where among others he had an audience with Emperor Gojong. The following day, on 20th June, he and left Korea again.


Herbig, Otto
Corvette Captain and commander of HM Corvette "Leipzig", brought Consul General Eduard Zappe from Nagasaki to Korea for contract negotiations. On 27th October 1883, the ship reached Chemulpo. On 29th November, three days after the signing of the German-Korean treaty, Herbig sailed the "leipzig" back to Japan.


Herzog, Ulrich
Dr. med., senior naval physician, visited Chemulpo in December 1902 on board the Gunboat "Jaguar". On 16th December, the ship continued his journey to Shanghai.


Hess
Lance Corporal on HM Corvette "Leipzig", which took Consul General Eduard Zappe from Nagasaki to Korea for contract negotiations. The ship arrived in Chemulpo on 27th October 1883, and Hess accompanied Zappe as an ordinance to Seoul.


Hoffmann
Dr. med., Senior Medical Officer on board the Cruiser "Hansa", in the summer of 1903 in Chemulpo. In January 1904, he visited Chemulpo a second time on the "Hansa".


Hoffmann, Carl Adolf Maximilian
Captain, military advisor to the 1st Japanese Army in Manchuria, arrived in Chemulpo for a few days as a military observer during the Russo-Japanese War in May 1905.


Hoffmann, Fritz
Corvette Captain and commander of the Light Cruiser "Seeadler", visited Chemulpo and Seoul from 22nd until 30th November 1901.


Holtzendorff, Henning Rudolf Adolf Karl von
Commodore, Second Admiral of the East Asian cruiser squadron, commander of the Cruiser "Hansa". Shortly before the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese War, Holtzendorff was sent to Chemulpo in January 1904 due to the serious political situation, where he anchored with his flagship for a few days.


Huss, Hans
Corvette Captain and commander of the Gunboat "Bussard", anchored with his ship in the port of Chemulpo from 9th until 15th March 1904.


Ingenohl, Gustav Heinrich Ernst Friedrich von
Rear Admiral, head of the German East Asian Cruiser Squadron, anchored with his Flagship "Scharnhorst" in Chemulpo from 21st to 24th September 1909.


Jena, Freiherr von
Lieutenant, a member of the German East Asian Infantry Regiment, came together with medical officer Dr. Ley on 6th May 1902 to Chemulpo.


Klöbe, Adolf
Captain and commander of the Gunboat "Jaguar", stayed with his ship in Chemulpo for a week in early November 1904.


Knipping, Friedrich
Midshipman on board HM Light Cruiser "Geier", which sailed to Pusan on 27th August 1901 and stayed there for a few days to carry out measurements.


Köhler, Heinrich
Captain and commander HM Frigate "Hertha", brought Max von Brandt from Yokohama to Pusan on 1st June 1870.


Kohlhauer, Eugen
Naval officer on board HM Corvette "Leipzig", reached Korea for the first time on 22nd September 1883, where the ship anchored a few days off the island of Komun-do. The "Leipzig" then took on board Consul General Eduard Zappe on 21st October in Nagasaki and sailed to Korea again for contract negotiations. They landed on 4th October 1883 in Chemulpo. During the negotiations, Kohlhauer had the opportunity to get to know Chemulpo and Seoul better.


Korn
Navy Paymaster on the Gunboat "Jaguar", in December 1902 in Chemulpo. On December 6th the ship left for Shanghai.


Kreyenberg
Dr. med., Senior Medical Officer on board the Gunboat "Jaguar", stayed in Chemulpo for one week in November 1904.


Kroebel, Ernst
Captain, head of the canteen system of the German East Asian Occupation Brigade in Tsingtao, husband of Emma Kroebel, made the acquaintance of Miss Antoinette Sontag on a trip to Korea (probably with Oskar von Truppel in 1904), who then invited his wife to Seoul to represent her at court for almost a year.


Kühne, Max
Lieutenant Commander, 1st officer on the Gunboat "Jaguar", on 15th December 1902 for a few hours in Chemulpo.


Küsel, Hans
Corvette Captain, commander on the Gunboat "Iltis", anchored in the harbour of Chemulpo from 7th until 14th September 1906.


Lessel, Johann Friedrich August von
Lieutenant Commander aboard HM Light Cruiser "Geier", anchored with his ship in Chemulpo in April 1904.


Ley
Dr. med., medical officer of the 2nd Battalion in the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Occupation Brigade in Tsingtao, visited Seoul on 6th May 1902.


Lützow
Lieutenant, officer on the Gunboat "Jaguar", entered the port of Chemulpo on 15th December 1902. But after a few hours the ship had to raise its anchor again and set sail for Shanghai.


Maltzahn, Curt Freiherr von
Lieutenant on board the Corvette "Leipzig", which brought Consul General Eduard Zappe from Nagasaki to Korea for contract negotiations. On 24th October 1883, the ship reached Chemulpo.


Mittelstaedt, Xaver von
Corvette Captain and commander of the Gunboat "Tiger", from 4th to 8th July 1901 for a fact-finding trip in Korea.


Moltke, Heinrich Karl Leonhard Graf von
Captain, commander of the Cruiser "Fürst Bismarck", with Vice Admiral Bendemann from 21st until 26th September 1901 in Chemulpo and Seoul. Graf von Moltke visited Korea a second time as a Rear Admiral in March 1905.


Müller, Georg Alexander von
Captain, commander HMS "Deutschland", took Prince Heinrich to Korea and stayed with his ship in Chemulpo from 8th to 20th June 1899. For a second time he anchored with the "Deutschland" in the port of Wonsan for almost four weeks from mid-July to mid-August 1899.


Obenheimer, August
Frigate Captain and commander of the Light Cruiser "Irene", entered harbours Wonsan, Pusan and Masanp'o in July 1899.


Platen-Hallermund, Oskar Rudolf Karl Marius Graf von
Corvette Captain, commander of the Gunboat "Iltis", brought Prince Georg of Bavaria to Chemulpo on 15th April 1903 and accompanied him to Seoul. On 20th April, the ship set sail for Japan.


Posadowsky-Wehner, Harry Graf von
Sublieutenant, adjutant to Captain Ernst von Trantzius on board the "Alexandrine", from 2nd to 11th. October 1892 in Chemulpo and Seoul.


Poten (or) Porten
Lieutenant, a member of the 63rd Royal Prussian Artillery Regiment, visited Korea in April 1904 and was received in audience by Emperor Gojong in Seoul.


Prittwitz und Gaffron, Bernhard Otto Curt von
Admiral, head of the German East Asian Cruiser Squadron, visited Chemulpo in September 1904 with his Cruiser and Flagship "Fürst Bismarck". On 9th September, the Admiral was received in Seoul by Emperor Gojong in an audience.


Puttfarken, Hans
Corvette Captain and commander of the Light Cruiser "Seeadler", entered Chemulpo with his ship in early 1905 and visited the Korean capital.


Richter, Max
Major, together with the civil engineer Georg Baur he undertook a trip from China to Korea, Japan and Russia from 12th July to 15th September 1891.


Riemer, Gustav Adolph
Paymaster on HMS "Stosch", accompanied Max von Brandt in May 1882 to the negotiations of the first German-Korean treaty to Korea. Riemer took some pictures of the delegates and can thus be called the first German photographer in Korea.


Risse
Navy engineer on the Gunboat "Jaguar", which arrived in Chemulpo on 15th December 1902. After a few hours, the ship steamed towards Shanghai.

Captain, Imperial German Legation Guard in Beijing, in late July or early August 1906 on vacation for study purposes in Korea.

Corvette Captain, commander of the Gunboat "Iltis", which was anchored in Chemulpo after the "Kapsin Coup" from 22nd December 1884 until 1st February 1885 to protect German citizens.

Sarnow, Carl Georg
Captain, commander of HMS "Arcona", from 1st to 11th June 1896 in Korea. On 5th June, Sarnow and his officers are received by King Gojong in the Russian embassy, where the monarch had taken refuge since his escape from the palace on 11th February 1896.


Schaumann, Carl
Lieutenant Commander on board the Cruiser "Fürst Bismarck", accompanied Vice Admiral Bendemann to Seoul during his visit to Korea from 21st to 26th September 1901.

Staff Engineer on board the Cruiser "Hansa", which entered the port of Chemulpo on 22nd July 1903 and anchored there for a few days. During a stay in Seoul, Wilke was a guest of the German physician Richard Wunsch.

Captain, commander of the Cruiser "Kaiser", during the visit of the cruiser squadron from 11th to 23rd July 1897 in Chemulpo and Seoul.
